Copperas Cove was founded in 1879 and was once a part of the feeder routes for the historic Chisholm Trail. Originally, the city started as a small farming and ranching settlement called Cove, and eventually became Copperas Cove, named for the coppery taste of the area’s spring water. 

A primary amenity for any city is its parks and recreation facilities and activities. Copperas Cove residents have a diverse range to choose from:

  • Eight City parks – Ogletree Gap Park features an original stagecoach stop and was the site of the City’s first Post Office

  • Athletic facilities (Picnic grounds, pavilions, swimming pools, splash pads, tennis courts, fishing, golf, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and volleyball courts)

Entertainment in Copperas Cove has something for everyone, from movies, games, and axe throwing to food trucks, festivals, and family fun. The Topsey Exotic Ranch and Drive-Thru Safari offers families the chance to see wildlife roam freely, and Copperas Cove’s social scene is alive with a diverse selection of family-owned restaurants, bars, numerous local meetups, a growing art & music scene, and more.

One of the most popular festivals that takes place each year is the annual Rabbit Fest presented by the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce. With an attendance of over 42,000, this festival is hopping with live entertainment, food, craft vendors, carnival rides, and the Rabbit Fest Parade.

With strong athletic and academic programs, Copperas Cove’s Independent School District serves a diverse student body of over 8,200, grades Pre-K through 12th. There are also several private and preparatory schools as well.

Part of the Advent Healthcare System. Family medicine physicians and nurse practitioners provide comprehensive care. 

Seton Medical Center Harker Heights (16 Miles)

The 83-bed acute care hospital opened in 2012. It is a Level IV Trauma Center and provides a range of services that includes Cardiology, ER, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Total Joint Replacement, Gastroenterology, a Women’s Center, and more.
