As a neighbor to Fort Cavazos, the City of Copperas Cove prides itself on being a supporter of the base’s personnel and their families in many ways, from Purple Star schools throughout the district to a well developed service industry that supplies quality of life amenities. The Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation and its community partners also focus on supporting service members and their families in regards to workforce development, small business ownership, and entrepreneurship.
Local community partner, Workforce Solutions of Central Texas will host a job fair on base Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Lone Star Conference Center, Fort Cavazos. Attendance is open to civilians, as well, however, if they don't have a military ID, they must get a visitor's pass at the Marvin Leath Visitors Welcome Center.
Brittany Sanders, CCEDC Workforce Development Specialist, offers resume printing services to Copperas Cove job seekers. Attendees simply need to call the EDC office at 254-547-7874 or email bsanders@coveedc.com to take advantage of the opportunity.
Another community partner, Texas A&M Central Texas will host a Veteran Benefit Expo on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Bill Yowell Conference Center in Warrior Hall, hosted by The Military and Veterans Services office at A&M–Central Texas. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with experts for help with disability claims, healthcare, and more, explore educational benefits to advance their career, and enjoy a meal while building connections with fellow veterans. While events offer specialized support for veterans, there are also resources that service members can take advantage of at any time.
For separating veterans, the Transition Assistance Program, located at 18010 Legends Way, Fort Cavazos, TX 76544, offers Trade and Apprentice Initiatives. (Soldiers must be within the last 6 months of service from separation date to participate).
Workforce Solutions of Central Texas also offers veterans assistance with employment, training, and related services free of charge to eligible veterans, transitioning service members, and their spouses.
Veterans Entrepreneur Program (VEP) provides veteran entrepreneurs and veteran small businesses the tools they need to start or grow their businesses. You can contact your local Texas Veterans Commission office or visit their website.
USAJobs.gov is the federal job board that provides job application and employment opportunity information for veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses, and civilians.
For veterans who are interested in starting their own business, the Small Business Administration offers resources including training, funding information, and more. (SBA Veteran Resources.) Further, the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation has a Small Business Development Center advisor that offers free consultations.
