Governor Greg Abbott announced over $17 million in grant funding for infrastructure projects in military communities from the Texas Military Preparedness Commission’s (TMPC) Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant (DEAAG) program. The grant funds will be invested in infrastructure projects and other initiatives to support military installations in Texas and protect jobs in military communities that may be impacted in any future Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process.

The City of Copperas Cove is to receive $5 million for their Fort Cavazos – Energy Resilience Storage System project, which was the top ranked project out of 6 to receive funding, and of 11 that were submitted. The project will install a Battery Energy Storage System for West Fort Cavazos providing energy resiliency as well as cost savings.

Keith Sledd, Executive Director of Heart of Texas Defense Alliance thanked community partners for their support of this project and said, “These projects help improve the military value of Fort Cavazos and improve installations readiness.”

Congratulations to all of our community partners who had a part in receiving this grant!
